Installing a backyard Pond

Skimmer and Waterfall Boxes

As much as I like getting new toys to play with I had been holding off on ordering the pond supplies until I got further along the project. With the hill gaining in stature it would soon be time to embed the waterfall box, not to mention laying the pipes for moving the water around.

Box Plans

At first I was seriously considering making the skimmer and waterfall box. I mean, ultimately, they are just boxes, right?

Here's the sketch. I studied pictures online and had the basic concepts. In trying to come up with a design I realized a couple of things.

First, where would I get heavy duty enclosure material that can withstand the pressure without leaking? And survive winter.

I made battery boxes for our electric car but dealing with water containment is a whole separate issue.

I should confess that water and I just don't get along. I'm always burning up tea pots, over-flowing tubs, over-draining ponds, and fixing and re-fixing water leaks. Probably not the right project for a water klutz but here I am.

The second thing I realized was that I had more than enough work just digging the pond. No reason to think up new things to do.
